Ganny and Grandaddy have come to visit Lauren every Tuesday (plus a few extra days inbetween) since we came home from the hospital. I like to think that they come to see me too but I know that they really come to hold Lauren. They come a little bit before lunch and stay until Eric comes home. The day involves a lot of singing and talking to Lauren while she is awake or asleep. She has really started to recognize their voices and Grandaddy seems to be able to stop her crying soon after he starts rocking her and singing. Grandaddy's special new song goes something like this: "Lauren is a sweet little girl, sweet little girl, sweet little girl. Lauren is a sweet little girl, yes she is." This baby is very lucky to have the attention from her great-grandparents.

Week 4: 7/21/09-7/27/09
This has been a busy week for us, although in our life before Lauren it would have been a "regular" week! My pregnancy partner cousin, Holly, used this quotation in Jackson's birth announcement and it is so fitting for us too: "First we had each other, then we had you, now we have everything." (I told you I would have to steal it, Holly!)
We took Lauren to the movie theatre for an afternoon matinee. There was one other person in the movie and Lauren seemed to enjoy it. The loud noises of "Transformers 2" didn't seem to bother her.
My great-aunt, Aunt Lizzie, passed away this past week at the age of 86. She was my name sake (Elizabeth) and now Lauren's. While she was in the hospital, she had a picture of Lauren on her bulletin board. This meant so much to me. She was a special person and is now home; her final home with Uncle Woody, Uncle Bobby, Aunt Dorothy and Papa Jay. I can picture all of them sitting around and chatting, welcoming Aunt Lizzie to heaven. The picture above is a picture of me as a baby (about 2 weeks old) held by Uncle Woody with Aunt Lizzie and my mom looking on. Lauren and I spent the night at Gigi and Pop's house the night before the funeral (Wednesday) since it was a morning funeral and 1 1/2 hours from Panama City.
This was the first night we spent away from Daddy! I packed our bag (a small suitcase for one night!) and felt like I was packing for a week's trip! Six or seven outfits, 2 gowns, 5 pair of socks (why I did this, I have no idea), a big handful of diapers, pack of wipes, breast pump, bottles, Lauren's "cosmetics" bag...I could go on and on. :-) The night went really well and Lauren slept great. She stayed in the crib that I had as a baby. Gigi set it up in the guest bedroom before Lauren's birth and bought a new bedding set. I think it is so pretty. The next day, I went to the funeral in Campbelton and was away from my baby for about 4 hours! It felt very strange! Gigi babysat and all would have been just fine, IF I had told her where I had hidden the nipples for the bottles! She had to call Grandaddy to quickly go to CVS to buy nipples for the bottles! I felt so bad! Whitney and Mary...does this story sound familiar with Noah!?!
Friday, Lauren and I went back to Chipley for a field trip: hair cut day for mommy! We went by Grandma's work and visited then had lunch with Gigi, Aunt Kay, Ganny and Grandaddy. Grandaddy loved introducing Lauren to his friends and showing her off. I am still getting used to nursing in public but with the nursing apron, it makes it so much easier and more discreet (or at least I hope it does). And, of course, we had our blow-out of the day while at the restaurant! Gigi was there to capture the moment with pictures. After lunch, we drove to Partenza in Marianna for mommy's haircut. Gigi came along to help, just in case we needed her, and Aunt Kay was there (Aunt Kay is working at Dana's shop as a part-time job). Lauren slept for the entire appointment. She was so good the entire day. This was the longest drive for both of us by ourselves. Wow! We are making progress!
Friday night, we met a group of friends at Spinnaker for dinner and to listen to Mike Grandy's band play on the back deck. Bailey Melzer (3 mo. old) and Anna (4 mo. old) were there with their parents, so technically, this was Lauren's first play date. She slept through most of it because it was so relaxing with the gulf waves, cool breeze, waterfall, and Mike's singing in the background.
Over the weekend, our family of 3 spent time strolling around the St. Andrew's area by the water at sunset. This is one of my favorite parts of Panama City. A few neat restaurants and shops and plenty of views of the water over the bay, by the marina and at the park. Lauren is starting to really like being in the stroller mostly because she falls asleep every time! We also spent time with our three oldest nephews and took Lauren for her first trip to McDonald's, thus a picture to document this momentous occasion! Ha! I also made my way to the grocery store with Lauren in tow. Errands like this, which used to take me 30 minutes, now take a little longer. I've been trying to plan one "field trip" per day so I don't get overwhelmed just yet (or exhausted).
As for milestones this week, Lauren is continuing to smile, but it rarely happens when I'm holding her. It mostly happens with Gigi and I try to have the camera ready when she holds her because of this. I think she likes Gigi's voice. She is also continuing to grunt...loudly! She is getting louder and louder as she gets older! She continues to change in looks almost daily, I think. We are not sure who she looks like right now. Recently we're hearing that she looks like Eric. I am trying to let her lay on her belly a little bit more. Her neck muscles are becoming stronger but she tires out so easily. I'm not trying to rush her though; I don't want her to grow up too quickly! She already seems so much bigger to me now. The video below is of her 1st Tummy Time, but she got upset rather quickly. I think she only liked it for the first few seconds. Notice Emma in the upper right corner. She has been really good around Lauren. She has smelled her head a few times, but has otherwise been unphased by our new addition.
I think she is about to undergo her next growth spurt...she is starting to be hungry every 1 1/2 to 2 hours during the day and crying a lot more. Tonight, I realized that one of her favorites places to be is on the changing table, so I started carrying her around on it. This is a picture of her watching us clean up after dinner, on the changing table pad.
We are having our photo session with Aunt Kim this next week and I am really looking forward to it! One group of pictures will be with Grandaddy's carriage that was used with him 80 years ago. It is really a special and pretty carriage. We are also looking forward to a visit from our friends Matt and Daphne. They are driving from South Carolina next weekend and we can't wait for them to come!
